The .sport Internet extension is for the community. This means that everyone who plays by the rules is included, and also means that there are rules to protect legitimate interests, including the concerns of brands, sponsors, and the collective community.

General Availability Information

• Some domains are premium
• Registrations will be in a pending-create state after registration. This means that each registration will be reviewed by the .sport Registry Validation Team.
• Allocation occurs after successful review. The Validation Team endeavors to complete the review within 5 business days but cannot guarantee this for all cases.
• A .sport registration must comply with .sport eligibility and name selection rules as set forth to the right.This means in particular that the role of the registrant must match the role of the domain.
• The registry must be able to identify the registrant, both at and after registration. This means that proxy registrations cannot be accepted. Note: In line with current practice in the context of GDPR, the .sport Whois service will show the Organization field but will not publish the email address, postal address or telephone number.
• The intended-use field is required. The intended-use field should contain a phrase or keyword expressing the registrant’s intended use of the domain. Additionally, unless the nexus between the registrant and the domain is well-known to the public at large, the intended-use field should also briefly describe how the registrant’s role matches the role of the domain.
• If a registration does not meet the eligibility and name selection requirements, it will be rejected. The registry may reach out to the registrar and, if need be, to the registrant, before making a determination. There is an ongoing post-validation process.
• So long as a domain is pending-create state, no other party can register that domain and no changes can be made to the domain. However, the changes to the registrant contact are allowed and the registrant can withdraw a registration request within 3 days. As soon as a registration has been withdrawn or rejected, it is possible for another party to register it (unless the registry determines that the name must be reserved).
• The registration fee is refunded upon withdrawal or rejection.
• If a registration is successfully validated, the domain is allocated (i.e. activated). The expiration date will be on the anniversary of the allocation date. The add grace period ends 5 days after allocation.

Registrant Eligibility

To register and renew a .SPORT domain name the Registrant must be an individual or a legal entity with a nexus to the .SPORT community at the time of registration and thereafter. Specifically, Registrants in .SPORT must be recognized performers, organizers, promoters or supporters of federated Sport, or belong to categories of Registrants recognized by the .SPORT Policy Advisory Board (PAB). Eligible Registrants include, inter alia:

• Sports Performers and Organizers: This class of registrants is intended to encompass those individuals, businesses, and organizations that produce sport content as publicly visible performers or organize and structure it. Specifically enumerated members of this group include: athletes, clubs, trainers, support staff, events, governing bodies, etc.
• Corporate Partners: This class of registrants is intended to encompass businesses, and organizations who support the production of sport content by providing resources in exchange for sport-related visibility, including sponsors and media.

Validation of said nexus will be carried out on a case by case basis by the Registry Operator. Registrants are required to state the intended use for the registered domain name. A false statement of intended use is an indication of bad faith and may be the basis for the suspension of the domain name.
