PW domain names have three levels:
- The first level, or Top Level domain, is .pw. The PW suffix is one of the original domain extensions on the Internet, and already works throughout the global network.
- The second level domain is the Community Level. Any PW domain with just one dot is a community level domain, for example boston.pw. These domains are not registrable. They are a shared resource for communities of shared interests. Most other domains limit the name registration to one owner of one second level name.
- The third level domain is the Individual Level. Any number of third level names are available within a given community. For example, the name john.boston.pw comes with the email address john@boston.pw, whereas the name johnny.boston.pw comes with the email address johnny@boston.pw. Similar names, yet unique, and both part of the same online community.
