Sounds like good news for .Pro and other alternate existing .gtld extensions. With .pro already established with 100K+ registrants and till 2013 (almost 2 years away) for new extensions. This will provide plenty of time for existing established extensions to get more established.

I’ve always been a little wary of new extensions coming onto the market as it is difficult to maintain and create an extension let alone get a large registry base needed to support one. Let alone find a short extension such as .pro that has the ability to enhance many keywords while providing a strong brand! I read this as great news for existing domain owners.

Really interesting idea. Another video streaming realted .pro site to watch is FilmMaker.pro which is a good one to check out. Its always good to see new web development within the .pro extension!

With the introduction of new domains on the market is ICANN going to do anything to level the playing field on existing extensions by removing registry requirements for extensions such as .PRO, .TRAVEL and .BIZ? Alot of people feel that restrictions are a negative towards growth in these extensions.

Therefore with an unlimited amount of extensions coming onto the market without restriction, is something going to be done to allow these existing .gtlds to play fairly?

Interesting concept – given my accounting/finance background I hold several investing and finance/accounting domains. I suppose at some point I should try to develop one. IMO .Pro would make more sense with say keywords such as TaxAccountant, FinancialAnalyst, Controller, CPA, Auditor, etc

Agreed. Ask.pro is excellent., but there are some other good ones. I could see dog, eco, tea (tea party) and dui competing for top auction result. All short and brandable.

I thought this is useful to see from a different prospect. Experts, please help me answer the below questions.

Registry:
1. This decision is good because, now the registry owners don’t need to depend on the registrar to put registrar marketing dollar, resources and place it in the top in their list to SELL more domains.
Now new TLD owners can build their own registrar (build new or buy an existing one) and sell more domains, pump more resources and makerketing dollars to be successful…This will get us lot of innovation because registries can spend more money in registrars…..
Q1: ISN’T THIS TRUE?

Registrar :
Small: No difference
Big : They can build a successful new TLD by going thru their own channel like eNom.

But current registrars have threat from registries to enter in to this registrar business…
Q2: is this true?

Q3: If Enom applies for a TLD, do you guys think
other small registrars or godaddy does not want to sell that TLD?

Domainer: They do the same as current …buy more names and make more money.
