Before ICANN - ISPs, webmasters, lawyers, etc. interfaced directly with
the Registry.

This helps to illustrate the Pyramid ICANN has constructed and the
artificial hurdles constructed for Registrars.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the entire history of ICANN is
that all of the focus is shifted to the performance of others. ICANN
did not have to meet any accreditation requirements or pay any fees.
Their boundless arrogance seems to be their primary qualification.
